When you left
When you left, I swore my heart would never be whole again. The silence was unbearable. The emptiness echoed louder than anything I’d ever known.
For a long time, I couldn’t imagine letting another dog into my life. It felt like betrayal—like opening the door would mean closing the one where your memory lived. But grief has a strange way of teaching us. One day, a new little soul appeared. Nervous, hopeful eyes. A heart that had also known loneliness. And when I reached out, I realized I wasn’t betraying you—I was honoring you.
You were the one who taught me love. You were the one who showed me devotion, loyalty, forgiveness. And it was those lessons that gave me the courage to let another dog in.
No, they will never be you. Their paws do not echo the same. Their eyes do not hold the same stories. But when they curl up against me, I feel your love flowing through them, as if you whispered: “It’s okay. Let them in. Love doesn’t stop—it grows.”
And so I heal. Not by forgetting you, but by carrying you forward… through another heart.
Because love that deep does not end with goodbye—it only finds new ways to shine.
