He was born Richard Lewis Springthorpe in Guildford, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, to Eileen Louise (Evennett) and Norman James Springthorpe, a Lt. Colonel in the Australian Army. His maternal grandparents were English, and his father was of English and some Scottish descent. Rick spent his childhood on various army bases in Australia and Britain. . He came to the U.S. early 1970s, and recorded an album,  Beginnings.  It had one " majo r" hit -  Speak to The Sky . After that came  " Comic Book Heroes ", which was marginally successful. He learned to speak English with an American accent to further his acting career, after he lost his record label. While he waited for his big break, he signed a contract with Universal television. Born in Boise City, Oklahoma, Vera Miles attended school in Pratt, Kansas and Wichita, Kansas. The patrician beauty of Miss Miles won her the title of " Miss Kansas " in 1948, When she appeared as a contestant on the April 4, 1951, episode of the Groucho Marx quiz show  You Bet Your Life  described as  "a beauty contest winner ", Marx asked her about some of the titles she held. She replied,  "I was first Miss Chamber of Commerce and then Miss Wichita and then Miss Kansas and Miss Texas Grapefruit and recently I've been chosen Miss New Maid Margarine and I had the honor to represent Kansas in the Miss America pageant ." He was born in Old Bethpage, New York, to Muriel (nĆ©e Smeallie), a housewife, and Floyd-Jones Youngs, an insurance salesman who served on Guadalcanal during World War II with the Marine Corps. He has two sisters, Robin Young and Gail Youngs, and a brother, Jim Youngs. He trained at the American Academy of Performing Arts before relocating to Los Angeles where he starred in the film  Eric  (1975) opposite Patricia Neal and Mark Hamill.
