The Waltons

"The Waltons" entered a period of quiet after the show ended. It appeared that the powers that be didn't think there was an audience for us in syndication; Little House was preferred and that was that. "The Waltons" didn't come up much in my daily life in San Francisco. When people recognized me, they were more likely to think we'd been to summer camp together. If they were older than me, they thought I'd babysat their children. When people said I looked familiar, I didn't assume it was because they'd watched Elizabeth grow up. Instead I'd say, "Hmmm. I grew up in L.A?" If they shook their head, I'd try, "I went to college at UC Berkeley?" If they shook their head again, I'd say, "I lived on the upper west side of New York for a while?" If their head was still shaking, I'd add, "I was on a TV show when I was a kid?" Recognition might flicker into their eyes at that point, and then they might look a little embarrassed, I'd reassure them and we'd have a low-key Waltons memory moment.

EDIT-- just remembered the photographer's name-- Michele Clement
