"The bad and the beautiful" 1953

It is not only a film about cinema which can be sufficient to get one's engrossed in. Minnelli's film is an astute, well-contemplated one to make true what is called a vicarious experience and take the audience where pictures are made fervently affected by profuse factors that partially remain obscure from whom they purchase tickets to watch the output. However, The bad and the beautiful provides a situation to gain valuable experience in the three sectors mentioned above. It demonstrates elaboratally and ingeniously but indirectly the process of directing, writing and acting from the scratch. The way Kirk Douglas explains it to Jim is the importance of visionary ideas in comparison with verbalized scenes. He argues persuasively and substantiates his claims with proper explanation whom the viewer might be convinced as Jim does. It happens once more, when Douglas makes his best effort to assist Georgia to know how she can perform more superiorly. Despite the fact that the three of them are to a certain degree hurt and fooled, Douglas's talent, ambition, dedication and insanity towards cinema are undeniable, thereby much more empathy might be raised. A sacrifice made in which hardly anyone speculates whom it is meant to be. Douglas metaphorically represents a portrait of film industry (Hollywood) which on one hand gives an opportunity to somebody to have their career takes off and makes great strides and on the other hand, it could be as harsh as the keen edge of a broken piece of wood to put someone's life into misery.
