Howard's London Film Productions film drama 'Fire Over England' (1937), notable for providing the first star pairing of Laurence Olivier, as "Michael Ingolby", and Vivien Leigh, as "Cynthia", and in other roles, Canadian actor Raymond Massey, as "King Philip II of Spain", and British actors Morton Selten, Robert Newton, James Mason, George Thirwell, Charles Carson, Welsh actor Lyn Harding, and German actress Tamara Desni. It was written by Clemence Dane, adapted from the 1936 novel 'Fire Over England' by A. E. W. Mason. It has been said that Vivien Leigh's performance in this film helped to convince David O. Selznick to cast her as "Scarlett O'Hara" in his production of Gone with the Wind (1939) also starring Vivien Leigh, Clark Gable, Olivia de Havilland, Leslie Howard, Hattie McDaniel, Butterfly McQueen, Ona Munson, Laura Hope Crews, and Jane Darwell, The film 'Fire Over England' (1937) is an historical drama set during the reign of Elizabeth I focusing on England's victory over the Spanish Armada.
