HERE COMES MR. JORDAN
"HERE COMES MR. JORDAN" (1943)
MY THOUGHTS: I enjoyed this movie very much. Two of the reasons were Don Ameche and Harry Morgan. Both of them are wonderfully gifted actors. However, not everyone is familiar with their early work, and have a tendency to assume that they did most of their work as "older gentlemen." That couldn't be further from the truth.
Harry Morgan appeared in 105 films during his career, with his last being released in 1999. You would be surprised by just how many of them are classics, with his having a key role in them, as he is an amazing character actor who was always in demand. He was also big in television, appearing on 14 series; most notably, 180 episodes on MASH, as Colonel Potter.
Don Ameche can be considered "Hollywood Royalty." He was a star of both stage and screen. He appeared in 66 movies, many of which are all-time favorites of film buffs. He is another actor who worked regularly, over the span of several decades, due to his talent and reputation. He is known to many younger generations for appearances in modern comedies, such as his key role in "Trading Places", opposite Ralph Bellamy and Eddie Murphy.
To see both of these legends, in a wonderful film, at the start of their careers is a rare treat! They are both terrific, as are the rest of this cast. The story itself is a bit sad and compelling, but it offers hope in the form of a ghost. It is nice to see a film where the ghost is neither a monstrous specter or a nuisance, but a guide to healing and understanding.
SYNOPSIS: "When his son dies in battle during World War II, Lew Marsh is convinced that his boy died too soon and was never able to really appreciate life. Together with the ghost, Lew travels back through his son's life and sees that he did live a full and happy life, after all, and that his death in combat was not really a waste."
