CABARET

 "CABARET"  (1972)

MY THOUGHTS: I love everything about this movie, and it is one of my absolute favorite musicals! Bob Fosse did a fantastic job directing and choreographing the film, not missing a single detail in any aspect of its production. The musical numbers performed by the Emcee, revel in the decadence that serves as a metaphor for the political decline of the Weimar Republic, and the rise of the Nazi Party, which, in a few years' time, would be closing down establishments like the Kit Kat Klub and burning "un-German books" in the streets of Berlin. At no time, not even in a lovely park during the day, were you lulled into forgetting the political and military influences of the war going on around them. It is a colorful, clever, fun, thought-provoking, entertaining, romantic, heart-breaking and incredibly memorable movie! I never turn down an opportunity to watch it!!

Despite Brian's confusion over his sexuality, the pair become lovers, but the arrival of the wealthy and decadent playboy Maximilian von Heune complicates matters for them both. This love triangle plays out against the rise of the Nazi party and the collapse of the Weimar Republic."
