Deanna Durbin & Judy Garland
Deanna Durbin & Judy Garland will be forever linked together as they both launched their solo careers at nearly the same time. Judy had appeared for years in performances with her sisters including a few short films, but when MGM agreed to launch them as individual stars, they paired them together in the 1936 short film “Every Sunday.” Two young starlets—their diverse voices blended together for 11 minutes of heaven.
Deanna left Hollywood for good in 1948 to live a quiet life in France. She never went back to Hollywood and rarely ever talked to the press. Judy had much longer career and was a the much bigger star but the 23 films that Deanna Durbin made and the 40 films that Judy Garland made are some of truly great films in Hollywood history.
Deanna Durbin MUST SEE: It’s a Date (very underrated), It started with Eve, Mad about Music, Three Smart Girls
Judy Garland. I’ve seen 23 of her movies but I’d like to recommend two underrated gems: Presenting Lily Mars & Little Nelly Kelly. Some people might disagree, but I love both of these films as well as ALL the others that are more well known (for Judy the list of great films is long!).
