MILDRED PIERCE

 "MILDRED PIERCE" (1945)

This psychological drama is perhaps the best role that Joan Crawford ever took on. She is amazing in it! The supporting cast, which includes: Zachary Scott, Ann Blyth, Eve Arden, Jack Carson, Bruce Bennett and JoAnn Marlowe, all do an equally fine job. Eve Arden and Ann Blyth are outstanding in their roles! In my humble opinion, Eve Arden stole a couple of the scenes, with her wry delivery and natural wit! Blyth on the other hand, managed to play a very complex character, without overdoing it. The result is a fantastic film that keeps you paying attention all the way through. It was nominated for 6 Academy Awards. Crawford took home the only one received, which was for her "Best Actress" performance. It was nominated for 2 additional awards from other organizations. They were also for Crawford's performance. She won 1. In 1996, it was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry.
SYNOPSIS: "When Mildred Pierce's (Joan Crawford) husband leaves her for another woman, Mildred decides to raise her two daughters on her own. Despite Mildred's financial successes in the restaurant business, her oldest daughter, Veda (Ann Blyth), resents her mother for degrading their social status. In the midst of a police investigation after the death of her second husband (Zachary Scott), Mildred must evaluate her own freedom and her complicated relationship with her daughter."
