American Gangster

"American Gangster" is a 2007 crime film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. The film is loosely based on the true story of Frank Lucas, a Harlem drug lord in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and Richie Roberts, the detective who brought him down.

Denzel Washington portrays Frank Lucas, a low-key driver and enforcer for a Harlem crime boss who rises to power after his boss dies. Lucas becomes a major heroin importer, importing pure heroin directly from Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War era, bypassing the traditional Mafia-controlled channels. Russell Crowe plays Richie Roberts, an honest and dedicated detective who is determined to take down the drug kingpin and clean up the streets of New York City.

The film explores themes of crime, corruption, power, and the blurred lines between law enforcement and criminality. It also delves into the personal lives of the characters, including Lucas's relationships with his family and Roberts's struggles with his own integrity and personal demons.

"American Gangster" is praised for its performances, direction, and storytelling. Denzel Washington's portrayal of Frank Lucas earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, while Russell Crowe's performance as Richie Roberts was also widely praised.

"American Gangster" is regarded as a compelling and gritty crime drama that offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of organized crime and law enforcement in 1970s America.
