Some days, the truth settles in quietly

Some days, the truth settles in quietly…

other days it crashes into me
like a wave I wasn’t ready for—
Heaven has my best friend.

The one who sat beside me
during the heaviest moments
without asking anything in return.
The one who made ordinary days
feel softer, kinder, easier to survive.

It still feels strange,
this idea that you’re in a place
my eyes can’t reach
but my heart feels constantly.

I imagine Heaven’s fields
a little brighter because of you—
your paws kicking through soft light,
your tail painting joy across the sky,
your laughter (the sound of your breath,
your spirit, your happiness)
echoing in a world without pain.

Some days I ache
because I miss the physical you—
the weight of your head on my lap,
the warmth pressed against my side,
the way you looked at me
like I was your whole universe.

But other days…
I breathe a little easier
knowing you’re somewhere safe,
somewhere whole,
somewhere your golden heart
is still shining.

Heaven may have my best friend,
but love keeps you close—
in my chest,
in my memory,
in every moment that suddenly feels like you.

And when the time comes,
when my own steps grow slow
and my own journey lifts me upward,
I know exactly who I’ll see first—
running toward me,
bright as the sun,
the best friend I ever had.

Until then,
Heaven can keep you safe.
My heart will keep you near.
