TOP HAT
"TOP HAT" (1935)
This musical screwball comedy is a true classic. It stars Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, who are adept at both comic timing and dance steps. The supporting cast, which includes Edward Everett Horton, Helen Broderick (mother of Broderick Crawford) and an uncredited Lucille Ball (as a flower shop clerk), all added something special to the film. It is a part of the National Film Registry. It currently is available for viewing on a streaming site, but you can rent it from a few.
SYNOPSIS: "The story centers on wealthy Dale Tremont (Ginger Rogers), on holiday in London and Venice. She assumes that American entertainer Jerry Travers (Fred Astaire) is the husband of her friend Madge (Helen Broderick) -- who's actually the wife of Jerry's business manager Horace Hardwick (Edward Everett Horton)."
