Daniel Defoe
April 24, 1731: English novelist and journalist Daniel Defoe died at age seventy in London. He is most well-known for his novel 'Robinson Crusoe', which is second only to the Bible in its number of translations. One of the earliest proponents of the novel, he helped to popularize the form in Britain with others such as Aphra Behn and Samuel Richardson, making him one of the founders of the English novel.
