I still reach for you in the small moments

I still reach for you in the small moments — the quiet ones, when the house has settled and it's just me and everything you left behind.

You're still here in the ways that matter. In the leash I haven't moved. In the name that rises in my throat before I remember. In every "goodnight" I still whisper, just in case some part of you still hears it.

You were never just a pet. You were comfort. You were routine. You were home. And if loving you harder could have kept you longer — you would have lived forever. I promise you won't be forgotten. Not ever.
