LIBELED LADY

 "LIBELED LADY" (1936)

MY THOUGHTS ... This was a "new movie" for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it! The actors all did a terrific job, and it was nice seeing William Powell and Myrna Loy together, in something other than a "Thin Man" movie. (This was, in fact, 5th of 14 films they did together). The pace is quick and there is a lot to be amused by. No wonder it is considered a "classic!"
SYNOPSIS: When a socialite sues a big paper for libel, the editor responsible calls in the help of his ignored fiancée and a former employee to frame her and make the false story seem true.
STARRING: Jean Harlowe, William Powell, Myrna Loy and Spencer Tracy.
SCREENPLAY BY: George Oppenheimer, Howard Emmett Rogers, Wallace Sullivan, and Maurine Dallas Watkins.
DIRECTED BY: Jack Conway
ACADEMY AWARDS: Nominated for 1 Academy Award and lost.
