Some nights feel heavier than others

Some nights feel heavier than others.

You wouldn’t always know it by looking at the world outside. The moon still hangs quietly in the sky, the stars still blink like nothing has changed… but inside a grandmother’s heart, there are worries that never quite go to sleep.

I’ve lived long enough to understand that life doesn’t always stay gentle.

There are days my grandchild will face things I cannot fix… moments where the world may feel confusing, overwhelming, or just a little too big for their small hands to hold.

And that’s the part no one prepares you for.

Because when you love someone this deeply, you wish you could stand between them and every hurt, every disappointment, every uncertain road ahead.

But I can’t.

So instead, I kneel beside their bed in the quiet of the night… when their breathing is soft and steady, when their little hand still holds onto a teddy bear like it’s their whole world.

And I pray.

Not loud. Not with big words. Just quietly… the way love often speaks.

“Heavenly Father, hold my grandchild close when life feels heavy and uncertain for them.”

Because even when I cannot be there someday…

I need to believe that God will be.

That He will carry what I can’t… protect what I treasure most… and whisper peace into their heart when mine is too far away to do it myself.

And somehow, in that quiet moment…

I find a little peace too.
