MGM had paired Ramon Novarro with Jeanette MacDonald in "The Cat and the Fiddle in 1934 but chose to team her with Nelson Eddy and this film, "The Night is Young", was in hopes of having a second successful operetta duo by teaming Novarro with British singer-actress, Evelyn Laye.
