Trivia of Christopher Plummer (13 December 1929 - 5 February 2021)
*Plummer comes from a family with a rich history in the arts. His parents were both musicians, and his great-grandfather was Sir John Abbott, the third Prime Minister of Canada. His parents split soon after he was born.He claims to have been raised by a dog—because he has no memory of any interaction with his parents during his formative years.
*He took up acting after watching Laurence Olivier's film Henry V (1944).In 1954, Plummer made his Broadway debut in “The Starcross Story,” which earned him critical acclaim. The show was a massive flop which closed on its opening night, which only goes to show that you shouldn't get downhearted by early setbacks. After appearing on stage, Plummer made his film debut in Stage Struck (1958), co-starring with Henry Fonda.
*Though his role as Captain Georg Von Trapp in The Sound of Music (1965) made him legend, Christopher Plummer intensely disliked working on this movie. He was known to refer to it as "The Sound of Mucus" or "S&M" and likened working with Dame Julie Andrews to "being hit over the head with a big Valentine's Day card, every day." Nonetheless, he and Andrews remained close friends until his death. Andrews claimed that Plummer's cynicism probably helped his performance and this movie, keeping it from being too sentimental.
*While filming The Sound of Music (1965) , Plummer was reported to have considered walking away when there was talk of dubbing his voice with that of a singer. They let him give it a go, and his voice stayed, including on Oscar Hammerstein's last ever song, the heartbreaking 'Edelweiss'.
*Natalie Wood, his co-star in Inside Daisy Clover (1965) once made him smitten. Plummer was hopelessly entranced with Wood, whom he both respected and enjoyed. He was in competition with many men for her favor, though, including Frank Sinatra, whom Plummer claims was always visiting the set to check in on Wood. The sophisticated Wood was not interested in Plummer romantically. But she did flirt with him mercilessly.
*Christopher's daughter Amanda Plummer is also an accomplished actor, playing Yolanda in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction. In 2005 they were both up for Emmys. She won for her role as Miranda Cole in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
