THE LONG, LONG TRAILER
"THE LONG, LONG TRAILER" --- (1954) ---
MY THOUGHTS: I really enjoyed this movie! I think that both Lucy & Desi were giving their best efforts, and it shows in the performances. They, with their reactions to the funny, dramatic and sweet situations, tucked inside a very original storyline, were excellent! It is worth a watch, and I've watched it more than once!
SYNOPSIS: "Nicholas Collini has to travel for his job as an engineer -- so his fiancƩe, Tacy, suggests that rather than buy a house after their wedding, they invest in a motor home so they can see the country together. But the aggravations of life with nosy trailer park neighbors and the dangers of piloting an enormous trailer across narrow country roads soon take their toll on the happy couple, putting their young marriage in turmoil."
STARRING: Desi Arnaz, Lucille Ball, Marjorie Main, Keenan Wynn, Moroni Olsen and Bert Freed.
SCREENPLAY: Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich; Based on The Long, Long Trailer- 1951 novel by Clinton Twiss.
DIRECTOR: Vincente Minelli
NOTES: The studio was not sure whether this film would be a success because it was thought people would not pay money to see Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in a movie when they could watch the couple on television for free. Arnaz made a $25,000 bet with the studio that the movie would make more money than the current highest-grossing comedy at that time. Arnaz won the bet. The characters Nicky and Tacy were remarkably similar to Ricky and Lucy; thus, the film gave audiences an opportunity to see Arnaz and Ball in color when I Love Lucy was in black and white.
