STELLA DALLAS

 "STELLA DALLAS" --- (1937) ---

MY THOUGHTS: Barbara Stanwyck was SO very good in this movie! This may be my new favorite role of hers, not having seen this performance until just a short while ago. She acted her way through many trying and tragic events, giving a great performance each step of the way, and doing so with much consistency. I very much enjoyed the movie, but for the most part, that was tied into how much I enjoyed her performance. It was well worth the watch!
SYNOPSIS: "When Stella Martin, a working-class woman, meets and marries the wealthy Stephen Dallas, they quickly have a daughter named Laurel. Stella and Stephen struggle to stay happy as their class differences become a problem; when they finally separate, Laurel is caught in the middle of the divorce. Soon, Lauren becomes the center of Stella's life. Stella tries to be a good mother but realizes that her daughter can flourish quite well without her."
STARRING: Barbara Stanwyck, John Boles, Anne Shirley, Barbara O'Neil, Alan Hale, Sr. and Tim Holt.
SCREENPLAY: Olive Higgins Prouty, Sarah Y. Mason, Victor Heerman, Harry Wagstaff Gribble, Gertrude Purcell and Joe Bigelow; adapted from "Stella Dallas."
AWARDS AND OTHER HONORS:
It was nominated for two (2) Academy Awards but didn't win.
