CAGED HEAT

 "CAGED HEAT" --- (1974) ---

MY THOUGHTS: I'm not a big fan of WIP (Women in Prison) movies. The majority of them are quite exploitive, do not show women in a good light and have very little real substance to their storylines. Such a shame, since I can think of at least a dozen movies about men in prison, that are done quite well and excellent films. Neither is the case with this film. I was wondering "how" and "why" it was on a video band, as it didn't seem like the type of movie that they would normally have. The only answer, which seemed both logical and appropriate, was that this was Jonathan Demme's debut as a director. He is highly regarded for his other films, and I thought that perhaps this one, being his first, was getting some sort of special consideration. However, that was only an assumption on my part. The truth is that I have no idea what qualifies this as a "classic" or what the appeal is. Maybe others will.
SYNOPSIS: "Women inmates fight a warden and her psychosurgical behavior modification."
STARRING: Juanita Brown, Ella Reid, Warren Miller, Erica Gavin, Barbara Steele and Crystin Sinclaire.
