Today we honor the legacy of Glenn Strange, born 16 August 1899 in Weed, New Mexico, and who passed away 3 July 1973. Strange was a towering presence in Hollywood, standing over 6’4”, and his versatility made him unforgettable.

From his early days as a stuntman and cowboy actor in B-Westerns alongside Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, to his iconic role as Frankenstein’s Monster in Universal’s 1940s horror films, Strange captivated audiences with both menace and charm.

Television fans remember him as Sam Noonan, the friendly bartender on Gunsmoke, a role he played from 1955 to 1972, bringing warmth and character to the legendary Western series.

Glenn Strange’s career bridged genres—from dusty Western towns to haunted castles—and generations, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances that continue to inspire fans of classic Hollywood.
