No one tells you how easy it is to become roommates

No one tells you how easy it is to become roommates

When the diapers need changing
The dishes keep piling
And sleep feels like a distant memory

You love each other
But the connection starts to feel muted
You’re passing each other in the hallway
Trading off who’s holding the crying baby
Who’s driving to practice
Who’s folding the next load of laundry

You stop asking “How are you?”
And start asking “Did you remember to thaw the chicken?”

It’s not that the love is gone
It’s that the noise got louder
The to-do list got longer
And the space to just be together
Got smaller

But underneath all the chaos
Is still you and them
Still that foundation
Still that spark

You just have to find it again
In the middle of bedtime routines
In the cracks between exhaustion
In the tiny moments where your eyes meet across the mess
And you remember

This is your teammate
Not your roommate

And even when it’s hard
You’re still in this together
