Your title to my child

Your title to my child will never make you entitled to my child.

It doesn’t matter what you call yourself. Grandma. Grandpa. Aunt. Uncle. Step-anything. Godparent. Family friend.

A title is just a word. It doesn’t automatically give you rights to my child. It doesn’t mean you get to ignore my boundaries. It doesn’t mean you get to insert yourself where you don’t belong.

Because being “family” isn’t enough. Respect is required. Effort is required. Safety is required. And if you can’t give those things, then you don’t get access.

It might hurt feelings. It might ruffle feathers. But my child’s well-being comes before anyone else’s comfort. Always.

And I will never apologize for protecting my child.
