WINCHESTER '73

"WINCHESTER '73" --- I watched this 1950 Western, which is included in the National Film Registry, this morning. I had never seen it before, and although westerns are not my favorite genre, I did enjoy it for what it was. I thought Jimmy Stewart was very good in it and so was Shelley Winters, who was such a stunning young woman. One piece of trivia about this movie that I found interesting...a large part of the movie was filmed at Old Tucson (Studios) in Arizona. A few years back, I had the opportunity to visit there. A LOT of really good movies and TV shows have been filmed there.

SYNOPSIS: "Lin McAdam (James Stewart) pursues notorious outlaw Henry "Dutch" Brown (Millard Mitchell) into Dodge City, Kansas. There, in an effort to flush out the criminal, McAdam enters a sharp-shooting contest and wins the top prize: the eponymous Winchester rifle. Brown, desiring the rifle for himself, sneaks into McAdam's room and makes off with it. After finding the rifle missing, McAdam chases Brown across the state and toward an epic confrontation."
