Choosing favorite grandkids isn’t cute
Choosing favorite grandkids isn’t cute.
It’s not funny.And it’s not harmless.
Kids feel everything.
They notice who gets picked up first.
Who gets the louder praise.
Who gets the extra snack, the longer hug, the softer tone.
You might think you’re being subtle.
You’re not.
Favoritism plants quiet wounds that grow loud later.
It teaches comparison instead of belonging.
Competition instead of safety.
It makes kids work for love that should have been freely given.
Grandparenthood is a privilege, not a ranking system.
Love isn’t supposed to be earned or auditioned for.
And if you can’t love them evenly, kindly, and without conditions, then distance is kinder than damage.
Because the kids will remember.
Even if you pretend not to.
