NORTH BY NORTHWEST
"NORTH BY NORTHWEST" (1959)
Believe it or not, I had never watched this film before. I had always meant to, but just never got around to it. I am so glad that I finally did! This suspense film, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, has an all-star cast; which includes Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason, Martin Landau, Edward Platt, Donna Douglas and Jessie Royce Landis. It is well-written, well-acted and keeps you guessing. It is definitely a "must see" movie. It was nominated for 3 Academy Awards, which included "Best Original Screenplay," for which it is included in the schedule. Cary Grant was awarded "Best Foreign Actor" from David di Donatello Awards. It was also nominated for a Directors Guild of America Award. It won "Best Motion Picture" from the Edgar Allen Poe Awards. It also won a Laurel Award for "Top Action Drama," was named one of the year's "Top Ten Films" by National Review Board, and Alfred Hitchcock took home the Silver Seashell at The San Sebastian International Film Festival.
SYNOPSIS: "This classic suspense film finds New York City ad executive Roger O. Thornhill (Cary Grant) pursued by ruthless spy Phillip Vandamm (James Mason) after Thornhill is mistaken for a government agent. Hunted relentlessly by Vandamm's associates, the harried Thornhill ends up on a cross-country journey, meeting the beautiful and mysterious Eve Kendall (Eva Marie Saint) along the way. Soon Vandamm's henchmen close in on Thornhill, resulting in a number of iconic action sequences."
