TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
"TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD" (1962)
This classic movie is definitely on my personal "Top Ten Movies of All Time" list. It is one that I could watch over and over, without tiring of it at all. It won 3 Academy Awards, which included one for Gregory Peck as Best Actor. It is also a part of the National Film Registry, having been added in 1995. It is also the debut movie for Robert Duvall (who plays Boo Radley in the film). The first couple of times I watched it, as a young kid, I thought Atticus had won the court case, because of all the people who stood for him as he passed by. The scene really got me (emotionally). It did so even more, when I realized he had lost and people standing was a sign of their respect for him. Gets me every time! It is so very worth the watch...and, re-watching.
SYNOPSIS: "Scout Finch (Mary Badham), 6, and her older brother, Jem (Phillip Alford), live in sleepy Maycomb, Ala., spending much of their time with their friend Dill (John Megna) and spying on their reclusive and mysterious neighbor, Boo Radley (Robert Duvall). When Atticus (Gregory Peck), their widowed father and a respected lawyer, defends a black man named Tom Robinson (Brock Peters) against fabricated rape charges, the trial and tangent events expose the children to evils of racism and stereotyping."
