The 22nd Academy Awards


 The 22nd Academy Awards were held on March 23, 1950, at the RKO Pantages Theatre, honoring the films in 1949. This was the final year in which all five Best Picture nominees were in Black & White, and the first year in which every film nominated for Best Picture won multiple Oscars.

Robert Rossen "All the King's Men" won Best Picture with other nominees being Dore Schary "Battleground", William Wyler "The Heiress", Sol C. Siegel "A Letter to Three Wives", Darryl F. Zanuck "Twelve O'Clock High".
Joseph L. Mankiewicz won Best Director for "A Letter to Three Wives" with the other nominees being Robert Rossen "All the King's Men", William A. Wellman "Battleground", Carol Reed "The Fallen Idol", and William Wyler "The Heiress".
Broderick Crawford won Best Actor for "All the King's Men" with the other nominees being Kirk Douglas "Champion", Gregory Peck "Twelve O'Clock High", Richard Todd "The Hasty Heart", and John Wayne "The Sands of Iwo Jima".
Olivia De Havilland won her second Best Actress award for "The Heiress" with the other nominees being Jeanne Cran "Pinky", Susan Hayward "My Foolish Heart", Deborah Kerr "Edward My Son", and Loretta Young "Come to the Stable".
Dean Jagger won Best Supporting Actor for "Twelve O'Clock High" with other nominees being John Ireland "All the King's Men", Arthur Kennedy "Champion", Ralph Richardson "The Heiress", James Whitmore "Battleground".
Mercedes McCambridge won Best Supporting Actress for "All the King's Men" with other nominees being Ethel Barrymore "Pinky" Celeste Holm "Come to the Stable", Elsa Lanchester "Come to the Stable", Ethel Waters "Pinky".
