The 15th Academy Awards
The 15th Academy Awards were held at the Coconut Grove in the Ambassador Hotel on March 4, 1943, honoring the films the previous year. This was the last ceremony to include a dinner and starting next year, the ceremony would begin to be held in a theater.
James Cagney won Best Actor for his portrayal of George H. Cohan in "Yankee Doodle Dandy" with other nominees being Ronald Colman "Random Harvest", Gary Cooper "The Pride of the Yankees", Walter Pidgeon "Mrs. Miniver", Monty Woolley "The Pied Piper".
Greer Garson won Best Actress for "Mrs. Miniver" (and she gave a six-minute acceptance speech) while other nominees were Bette Davis "Now, Voyager", Katharine Hepburn "Woman of the Year", Rosalind Russell "My Sister Eileen", and Teresa Wright "The Pride of the Yankees".
Van Heflin won Best Supporting Actor for "Johnny Eager" and the other nominees were William Bendix "Wake Island", Walter Huston "Yankee Doodle Dandy", Frank Morgan "Tortilla Flat" Henry Travers "Mrs. Miniver.
Teresa Wright won Best Supporting Actress for Mrs. Miniver" while other nominees were Gladys Cooper "Now, Voyager", Agnes Moorehead "The Magnificent Ambersons", Susan Peters "Random Harvest", and Dane May Whitty "Mrs. Miniver".
