The 14th Academy Awards
The 14th Academy Awards were held on February 26, 1942, at the Biltmore Hotel and it was hosted by Bob Hope.
Darryl F. Zanuck won for producing the Best Picture winner, "How Green was My Valley". John Ford won Best Director for "How Green was My Valley" over Orson Welles "Citizen Kane", Alexander Hall "Here Comes Mr. Jordan", William Wyler "The Little Foxes", and Howard Hawks "Sergeant York".
Gary Cooper won Best Actor for his performance in "Sergeant York" and the other nominees were Cary Grant "Penny Serenade", Walter Huston "All That Money Can Buy", Robert Montgomery "Here Comes Mr. Jordan", and Orson Welles "Citizen Kane".
Joan Fontaine won Best Actress for her performance in "Suspicion" over nominees Bette Davis "The Little Foxes", Olivia De Havilland "Hold Back the Dawn", Greer Garson "Blossoms in the Dust", and Barbara Stanwyck "Ball of Fire".
Donald Crisp won Best Supporting Actor for "How Green was My Valley" while the other nominees were James Gleason "Here Comes Mr. Jordan", Charles Coburn "The Devil and Miss Jones", Walter Brennan "Sergeant York", Sydney Greenstreet "The Maltese Falcon".
Mary Astor won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for "The Great Lie" while the other nominees were Sara Allgood "How Green was My Valley", Patricia Collinge "The Little Foxes", Teresa Wright "The Little Foxes", Margaret Wycherly "Sergeant York".
