A PERFECT HALO AROUND THE SUN
A PERFECT HALO AROUND THE SUNThis happened in Wyoming, by a mountain lake near Grand Teton National Park, right at sunset when the air turned crisp and the water went glass-still.
A thin, high layer of clouds moved in, and the sunlight passed through tiny ice crystals up there — bending the light into a clean 22° halo that circles the Sun. The lake below reflected the whole moment .
Where you can see this:
Rockies & High Plains (Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Utah)
Great Plains (Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas)
Upper Midwest winters (Minnesota, Wisconsin)
Best timing: sunrise or sunset with thin, milky high clouds drifting across a clear sky.
