RAINBOW LIGHT POURING FROM A STORM CLOUD

RAINBOW LIGHT POURING FROM A STORM CLOUD

The field went quiet… then the sky opened in color.

This happened during late-day storm build-up over open plains, when a tall cloud tower formed and the Sun dropped low behind it. The cloud blocks most of the sunlight, but small gaps and thin edges let beams slip through. When that light passes through moist air and tiny droplets, it can separate into soft rainbow shades and show up as visible rays across the landscape.

The bright rim around the cloud is the Sun lighting the edges from behind, while the “fans” of light are crepuscular rays .. made dramatic by the low Sun angle and the clean, open horizon.
