Edward de Vere

.
His father, John de Vere, 16th Earl of Oxford, was hereditary Lord Great Chamberlain, and attended the coronations of both Mary and Elizabeth Tudor.
In August 1562, John de Vere died and the twelve-year-old Edward became the 17th Earl of Oxford.

Edward lived for eight years as a royal ward under the care of William Cecil, Lord Burghley.
In December 1571 Edward married Burghley’s daughter, Anne Cecil.
Edward's relationship with Anne, appears to have been tense during the early years.
He appears to have delayed consummation of the marriage.
In an age without birth control, Anne only first became pregnant about three years later, in early 1575.

A disapproving Queen Elizabeth jailed both parents briefly, and Edward was absent from court, for the next two years.

In 1591 Edward married Elizabeth Trentham, one of Queen Elizabeth's Maids~of~Honour.
Elizabeth gave birth to his only surviving son, and heir Henry de Vere.

During the early 1570s several of Edward’s poems were published
Over the decades, more than thirty volumes of poetry or prose, both originals and translations, were dedicated to him, some of which bore his own introductory essays or poems.

He would write under several pen names and also under names of living persons, but.....
Some Shakespearians believe his most famous pen name was..... "William Shakespeare."

He was buried on 6th July in the Hackney churchyard of St Augustine's.

In the summer of 1548, the thirteen-year-old Princess Elizabeth Tudor was secluded at Cheshunt, England.
According to witnesses, she gave birth to a boy.
The boy's father was Thomas Seymour, Elizabeth's stepfather~and Husband to Dowager Queen, Katherine Parr.
The child was placed in the household of John de Vere, 16th Earl of Oxford and the baby was raised as....
Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford!
