Brock Peters
Brock Peters (1927–2005), the distinguished actor and singer born George Fisher. Peters is best remembered for his groundbreaking performance as Tom Robinson in the 1962 classic To Kill a Mockingbird, and for his role as Crown in Porgy and Bess (1959). He also gained a devoted following among Star Trek fans for his portrayals of Fleet Admiral Cartwright in the films and Joseph Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.Peters’ career spanned stage, screen, and music. He earned a Tony nomination for Broadway’s Lost in the Stars, sang on Harry Belafonte hits such as “Day-O” and “Mama Look a Boo-Boo,” and collaborated with jazz legend Randy Weston. His dedication to portraying powerful and socially conscious roles, including Tom Robinson and Henry in Abe Lincoln, Freedom Fighter, left a lasting cultural impact. He delivered the eulogy at Gregory Peck’s funeral in 2003, honoring his To Kill a Mockingbird co-star. Peters passed away from pancreatic cancer on August 23, 2005, at age 78, and is interred at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills.
