Kind Lady
"Kind Lady" 1951 is not a remake of the 1935 film in the sense that Maurice Evans is given a very different role to play than Basil Rathbone's smooth and sinister portrayed in the 1935 film. Doris LLoyd was in both movies and she was a sister in 1935 and she becomes the maid Rose in the 1951 movie. There's a switch from psychological sinister claustrophobia to character movement and film noir in the 1951 movie. Betsy Blair as Ada is very different and Angela Lansbury has the brutish Keenan Wynn to contend with. I watched both like a double feature and Aline MacMahon is taken by surprise as Basil Rathbone, a narcississtic character, takes over her home while Ethel Barrymore visits Maurice Evans in the park and at his studio. These are different films and interpretations of the play and story and I can't say that one is better than the other and it would be wrong of me to do so. I recommend both highly.
