Elspeth Dudgeon

Elspeth Dudgeon was born in London in 1871 and she died in Los Angeled in 1955. She was a stage actress who made 68 films with her screen debut as an 'Elegant Dowager' in James Whale's 1931 "Waterloo Bridge" and his 1932 film "Impatient Maiden". She was also cast in his 1932 hit, "The Old Dark House" as 'Sir Roderick Femm'. The bedridden character has a scraggly beard but one can tell that Sir Roderick is a woman only to be thrown off by the credits stating the actor is 'Joseph Dudgeon' and not Elspeth!
