Billy Halop
Billy Halop, 1920-1976 was brought to Hollywood by Samuel Goldwyn to recreate his role in the film adaptation of "Dead End" in 1937 starring Sylvia Sidney, Joel McCrea, Humphrey Bogart, Claire Trevor, and Marjorie Main. He went on to make four films in 1938: "Crime School", "Little Tough Guy", "Angels With Dirty Faces:, "Swingtime in the Movies", and in 1939 he made "They Made Me a Criminal" with John Garfield (a remake of the 1933 "The Life of Jimmy Dolan") and 6 other movies. Halop left the Dead End Kids to make it on his own but he soon found himself in B movies He was married four times and his marital and financial problems hindered his career. In later years he had the recurring role on "All in the Family" of Munson who owned the cab company Archie Bunker worked for. Halop died of a heart attack He was 56.
