The 27th Academy Awards
The 27th Academy Awards were held on March 30, 1955, to honor the best films of 1954, hosted by Bob Hope at the RKO Pantages Theatre in Hollywood with Thelma Ritter hosting from the NBC Century Theatre in New York City.
Elia Kazan won Best Director for "On the Waterfront" beating George Seaton "The Country Girl", William A. Wellman "The High and the Mighty", Alfred Hitchcock "Rear Window", Billy Wilder "Sabrina".
Marlon Brando won Best Actor for his performance in "On the Waterfront", beating out Humphrey Bogart "The Caine Mutiny", Bing Crosby "The Country Girl", James Mason "A Star is Born", and Dan O"Heriley "Robinson Crusoe".
Grace Kelly won Best Actress for "The Country Girl" beating out Dorothy Dandridge "Carmen Jones", Judy Garland "A Star is Born", Audrey Hepburn "Sabrina", Jane Wyman "Magnificent Obsession".
Edmond O'Brien won Best Supporting Actor for "The Barefoot Contessa", Lee J. Cobb "On the Waterfront", Karl Malden "On the Waterfront". Rod Steiger "On the Waterfront", Tom Tulley "The Caine Mutiny".
Eva Marie Saint won Best Supporting Actress won for "On the Waterfront" beating out Nina Foch "Executive Suite", Katy Jurado "Broken Lance", Jan Sterling "The High and the Mighty", Claire Trevor "The High and the Mighty".
Bette Davis (presented Marlon Brando), winners Marlon Brando and Grace Kelly, host Bob Hope.
