A Native Daughter

“A Native Daughter,” portrait by Andrew Forbes, Bishop, CA, early 1900s.
A handwritten note on the back of the photo states, "It is not uncommon to see the Paiutes on the streets of Bishop, Inyo County."
Itinerant photographer Andrew Forbes (1862-1921) photographed Native Americans, ranch hands, settlers and cowboys throughout the Southwest.
He moved west in 1890 and set up a studio in Bishop around 1902, which he operated for 14 years. His studio was popular with members of the Paiute tribe, who would stop by to have their portrait taken.
