The 24th Academy Awards

The 24th Academy Awards were held on March 20, 1952, honoring the films of 1951. The ceremony was hosted by Danny Kaye.

An American in Paris and A Place in the Sun each received six Oscars, splitting Best Picture and Best Director, respectively. A Streetcar Named Desire won four Oscars, including three of the four acting awards for which it was nominated. The film's only unsuccessful acting nomination was that of Marlon Brando, whose performance as Stanley Kowalski was later considered one of the most influential of modern film acting.
Humphrey Bogart was the last man born in the 19th century to win Best Actor. He won it over favored winner Marlon Brando, by the logic of the former being too long overlooked and the latter being a newcomer.[2] The next day, Bogart remarked that "awards don't mean a thing unless every actor plays Hamlet and then who is best is decided."
"An American in Paris Arthur Freed MGM won Best Picture with "Decision Before Dawn" Anatole Litvak & Frank Mc Carthy for 20th Century Fox, "A Place in the Sun" George Stevens Paramount, "Quo Vadis" Sam Zimbalist MGM, "A Streetcar Named Desire" Charles K. Feldman Warner Bros.
George Stevens won Best Director for "A Place in the Sun" over John Huston "The African Queen", Vincent Minnelli "An American in Paris", William Wyler "Detective Story", Elia Kazan "A Streetcar Named Desire."
Humphrey Bogart won Best Actor for his performance for "The African Queen" over Montgomery Clift "A Place in the Sun", Arthur Kennedy "Bright Victory", Fredric March "Death of a Salesman", and Marlon Brando "A Streetcar Named Desire".
Vivien Leigh won Best Actress for her performance as Blanche Du Bois in "A Streetcar Named Desire" over Katharine Hepburn "The African Queen", Eleanor Parker "Detective Story", Shelley Winters "A Place in the Sun", Jane Wyman "The Blue Veil".
Karl Malden won Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Mitch in "A Streetcar Named Desire" over Leo Genn "Quo Vadis", Kevin McCarthy "Death of a Salesman", Peter Ustinov "Quo Vadis", Gig Young "Come Fill the Cup".
Kim Hunter won Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Stella Kowalski in "A Streetcar Named Desire" with other nominees being Joan Blondell "The Blue Veil", Mildred Dunnock "Death of a Salesman", Lee Grant "Detective Story", Thelma Ritter "The Mating Season".
Bette Davis (accepting for Vivien Leigh or for Kim Hunter), George Sanders (I'm not sure why he is in the photo unless he accepted for George Stevens), Karl Malden, Greer Garson (accepting on behalf of Vivien Leigh or Kim Hunter), Humphrey Bogart.
