The main arc is a rainbow
It looks like light pouring down… and that’s almost exactly what it is.The main arc is a rainbow...sunlight splitting inside raindrops. Those bright “columns” under it are a rarer partner called sun pillars / light pillars: when the sun is low and the air has flat ice crystals (or fine spray), the light reflects downward into glowing vertical streaks.
You’ll see moments like this most often near cold coasts and open water—like the Norwegian Sea...when sunset light hits moist air and thin icy clouds at the same time.
