George Burns

 George Burns, born Nathan Birnbaum (January 20, 1896 – March 9, 1996)

He was one of the few entertainers whose career successfully spanned vaudeville, film, radio, and television. His arched eyebrow and cigar smoke punctuation became familiar trademarks for over three-quarters of a century. Burns gained international fame with wife Gracie Allen while performing as the "Burns & Allen" comedy team. "The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show" lasted eight years consisting of 292 episodes. Gracie later went into poor health, retired, and died of a heart attack in 1964. George attempted to continue alone with several short lived shows, "The George Burns Show", "Wendy and Me" and finally the "George Burns Comedy Week." He became relatively dormant for a decade after his last disaster TV show. However, he revived his career in 1975 with his performance in "Sunshine Boys", in a role that was intended for Jack Benny (who had died the year before). He continued to perform into his 90's, before failing health caused him to stop. George Burns died at age 100, and is interred with Gracie at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale,CA.
