Rebecca Lucile Schaeffer
Rebecca Lucile Schaeffer (November 6, 1967 – July 18, 1989)Schaeffer began her career as a teen model before moving on to acting. In 1986, she landed the role of Patricia "Patty" Russell in the sitcom My Sister Sam. After the series was canceled, Schaeffer appeared in several films, including Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills (1989). She was murdered in 1989 by Robert John Bardo, who had been an avid fan turned stalker. His obsession turned lethal when he wanted to "punish" Rebecca for her last role in Class Struggle in Beverly Hills. Obtaining her address from DMV records, and a gun from his brother, Bardo went to Los Angeles to confront her. Bardo showed up at Schaeffer's home, showed her a letter and autograph she had previously sent him and, after a short conversation, Schaeffer asked Bardo not to come back again. An hour later, Bardo returned to Schaeffer's apartment for a second time Schaeffer answered the door again, and he pulled out a gun from a brown paper bag and shot her at point-blank range in the chest. She was rushed to a hospital, but died within 30 minutes of arrival. Bardo had fled the scene, but was later caught in Tuscon, and confessed to the crime. She is buried at Ahavai Sholom Cemetery in Portland, OR.
