The Trap

"The Trap" 1922 directed by Robert Thornby, written by Lon Chaney, Lucien Hubbard, and George C. Hull.

Lon Chaney, Alan Hale, Dagmar Godowsky, Stanley Goethals, Irene Rich, Spottiswood Aitken, Herbert Standing, Frank Campeau.
The print I saw was in very poor condition and it needs restoration to better illustrate the northern scenery which is hinted at in the current circulating copy. The story is very melodramatic with Chaney being a simple and good young man driven to do harm towards Alan Hale (yes, father of "Gilligan's Island" Skipper). Chaney overacts while Hale is fine. Dagmar Godowsky and Irene Rich are adequate in their thankless roles. The boy, Stanley Goethals, seems to be mimicking Jackie Coogan but with less effect.
