KING JAMES VI WAS DISGUSTED BY WATER

King James VI of Scotland, was notorious for his atrocious hygiene.

He would reportedly wear the same clothes for months at a time, and was actually said to have an aversion to water, so he washed himself as little as possible.

He didn't even wash his hands before eating, instead rubbing the ends of his fingers with a wet napkin.

To top it off, one court lady complained that she and her friends were infested with lice, after sharing a room with him.

It was reported that while out hunting, James didn't even dismount to pee.

He would just sit in the saddle and relieve himself!

Of course, by the end of the day, he would be a stinking wet mess!

His ungainly presence, mumbling speech and dirty ways did not inspire much respect.

Reports of his homosexual tendencies, and alcoholic excesses, shocked the English court after the reign of Elizabeth I.

It was often said 'Elizabeth was our King and James is our Queen'

Due to fear of getting a disease, many members of the upper class cut down their bathing habits, to a few times per year.

Striking a balance between the risk of contracting a disease from the bath vs. body stench, i know which one i would choose lol......
