‘Sylvia Scarlett’ (1935)

Remembering British screen star Brian Aherne on his birthday. He is seen here in bed on the left, with Katharine Hepburn on the right posing as a man, in George Cukor’s ‘Sylvia Scarlett’ (1935), also starring Cary Grant and Edmund Gwenn. Katharine Hepburn’s gender-bending role, impersonating a man, à La mode ‘Victor/Victoria’, was too much for the audiences of 1935, so it was shelved at the time. But now it’s readily available and enjoyed by many.
