May 2nd, in 1946, Tay Garnett’s film noir masterpiece, based on the James M. Cain’s 1934 novel by the same name, ‘The Postman Always Rings Twice’, starring Lana Turner, John Garfield, Hume Cronyn, Cecil Kellaway, Leon Ames, and Audrey Totter, was released. It was the third film version of the novel, after the French version, ‘Le Dernier Tournant’ (‘The Last Turning’) in 1939, and then the Italian version ‘Ossessione’ (‘Obsession’) in 1943. The film was then remade decades later in Hollywood, Bob Rafelson’s ‘The Postman Always Rings Twice’ (1981), starring Jessica Lange, Jack Nicholson, Angelica Huston, John Colicos, Michael Lerner, John P. Ryan, and William Traylor, and with an adaptation screenplay by David Mamet, his movie screenplay writing debut. It has always been my opinion that Lana Turner was the most sensuous of all of the sex goddesses from the Golden Age of Hollywood
