Dorothy Sebastian
Dorothy Sebastian, April 26, 1903, Birmingham, AL - April 8, 1957, Woodland Hills, CA. She was married to William Boyd (Hopalong Cassidy) 1930-1936 and she did place his career first when she was released from her MGM contact in 1930. In the 30s she was at Columbia then free-lanced mostly making low budget films. She and Boyd divorced in 1936 and she married Harold Shapiro in 1947 and they remained together until her death.
She has a star on the Walk of Fame, and it is for her films at MGM for which she is most noted. "Our Dancing Daughters" 1928 with Joan Crawford, Anita Page, Johnny Mack Brown, and Nils Asther is available and it is a classic as is the second sequel, "Our Blushing Brides", 1930, with Joan Crawford, Anita Page, Robert Montgomery, John Miljan, and Raymond Hackett. For some reason, Sebastian was not in the first sequel, "Our Modern Maidens". She was also in Clarence Brown's "A Woman of Affairs" 1928, with Greta Garbo, John Gilbert, Lewis Stone, and Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and she was in "The Single Standard" 1929 starring Greta Garbo, Nils Asther, and Johnny Mack Brown. Another film which is available is Buster Keaton's second MGM film, "Spite Marriage" 1929, for which she received critical praise for being so pliable in Keaton's hands in the physical comedy scenes.
