Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy

Child actors Carl “Alfalfa” Switzer and George “Spanky” McFarland, famous for the Hal Roach ‘Our Gang’ series of short movies that they appeared in during the 1930’s, are seen here photographing Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in 1934 at Hal Roach Studios. As a team, “Laurel and Hardy” made dozens of movies together, spanning three decades, from 1921 to 1951. During the silent movie era they made short films for Hal Roach, which were distributed by Pathé Exchange, and then later in the Pre-Code era, beginning in 1929, they began also making full length feature films together.
